The Swedes settled in the Midwest. In 1910 Chicago had a Swedish population of over 100000, making it the second largest Swedish city in the world, next to Stockholm.
Minnesota is by a wide margin the state with the most inhabitants of Swedish descent – nearly 10 percent of the population.
Today it is estimated that nine million Americans have Swedish roots, as many as there are Swedes in Sweden.
